![]() ![]() Many people certainly will lose money when hosting a yard sale if they don’t first find out what the value is of all of those objects headed for the lawn. Personally, I am not a big advocate of folks hosting yard sales blindly. For instance, the $425,000 Martin Johnson Heade oil painting that sold at a California yard sale for $18 and the $225,000 Chippendale table purchased at a New Jersey yard sale for $35 are just two good examples of the rarely exposed fact that yard sales can, in some cases, cost you big bucks when all you are trying to do is make a little extra money. Yard sales have been the site of many losses, even big ones. Also, I commented on the all-too-real possibility of a yard-sale host losing money. While the film concentrated on the thrill of the hunt, I offered some tips for shoppers and sellers.
